*Lads* looking for a start with qualifications for what its worth here is my tuppence. 

Ive been in the industry 15 years, i started as a deck hand and fucking hated it and went back to Iraq, then when CP dropped its arse i came back offshore but in my chosen field as a medic. Medic offshore and Medic in Iraq and Africa are 2 very different things so i was always willing to change. I did Rope Access for 9 years, ive done every job on the ropes going. I now work in management as a MWS and Client Rep but still keep my Slinger/Rigger quals in date and predominately work in the lifting industry onshore as a crane supervisor and NVQ rigger.

However before stepping into management 3 years ago, when there wasn't any other work going i did something called grouting. Ive done it on and off for 12 years. Make no bones about it the job is fucking shite, you can be on a 6 man team and the grout seals blow and end up working for 36 hours continuous, if you do a 12 hour grout you will get covered in cement, potentially end up burned depending on the equipment you use and if the PPE isn't good enough, you get covered in shite when washing the equipment down. 

Given most rigs and most foundations are grouted there is always work.  

Mechanical techs are always needed for the pumps, technicians are needed for the labs and the bag work. 

Some people start and never leave they end up with some sick affection towards it (like me) others use it as a stepping goal. I was lucky i new the owner of the recruitment firm as he happened to be my mate from my home town. 

However there are other companies out there who actively look for lads. You will get fucked about. Jobs get put back, you will be ready to fly one day and it get cancelled then told half way between leave your needed back, but for a start its something.
