Drug and Alcohol Policy


Fixed Construction Limited is an agency that provides skilled workers to companies in the construction industry. We understand the importance of maintaining a safe and productive work environment for both our employees and the companies we serve. The use of drugs and alcohol poses significant risks to workplace safety and productivity. This policy outlines our commitment to a drug- and alcohol-free workplace and emphasizes our responsibility to inform and educate the workers we supply to our client companies about this policy.

Policy Statement:

Fixed Construction Limited strictly prohibits the use, possession, distribution, sale, or being under the influence of drugs or alcohol during work hours, while on client company premises, or when operating client company vehicles or equipment. This policy applies to all our employees, subcontractors, temporary workers, and individuals we place at client company worksites.

Policy Guidelines:

  1. Prohibited Substances:
  2. Drugs: The use or possession of illegal drugs or unauthorized prescription drugs is strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, marijuana, cocaine, opioids, amphetamines, hallucinogens, and any other controlled substances.
  3. Alcohol: The consumption of alcohol is strictly prohibited during working hours or when operating client company vehicles or equipment.
  4. Awareness and Communication:

Client Company Notification: Fixed Construction Limited will inform our client companies about our drug and alcohol policy and emphasize its importance in maintaining a safe and productive workplace. We will work collaboratively with our client companies to ensure that the policy is communicated effectively to the workers we supply.
  6. Worker Orientation: All workers provided by Fixed Construction Limited will receive an orientation that includes information about the drug and alcohol policy. This orientation will emphasize the policy's significance, the potential consequences of policy violations, and available resources for assistance.
  7. Testing and Screening:
  8. Pre-Employment Screening: As part of our hiring process, all job applicants are required to undergo drug and alcohol screening. Successful completion of the screening is a condition of employment.
  9. Random Testing: Fixed Construction Limited may conduct random drug and alcohol testing for employees and subcontractors, including those assigned to client company worksites. Random testing may occur without prior notice to ensure ongoing compliance with the policy.
  10. Post-Incident Testing: In the event of a workplace accident, injury, or near miss involving a worker supplied by Fixed Construction Limited, the worker may be required to undergo drug and alcohol testing as soon as possible after the incident.
  11. Reasonable Suspicion Testing: If a supervisor at a client company has reasonable suspicion to believe that a worker supplied by Fixed Construction Limited is under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the worker may be subject to testing as per the client company's policies and procedures.
  12. Consequences of Violations:
  13. Positive Test Results: A worker who tests positive for drugs or alcohol may face disciplinary action, up to and including termination. The exact consequences will depend on the circumstances, the worker's history, and the policies of the client company.
  14. Rehabilitation and Assistance: Fixed Construction Limited acknowledges that substance abuse can be a treatable condition. Workers who voluntarily seek help for substance abuse may be provided with information and assistance in accessing rehabilitation programs.
  15. Education and Training:
  16. Training: Fixed Construction Limited will provide initial and ongoing training to our employees, subcontractors, and temporary workers regarding the drug and alcohol policy. This training will include the risks associated with substance abuse, signs of impairment, and available resources for assistance.
  17. Communication: We will communicate the drug and alcohol policy to all workers supplied to client companies and make it easily accessible to them. We will ensure that the policy is posted prominently at our offices and client company worksites.
  18. Confidentiality:
  19. The drug and alcohol testing process will be conducted with the utmost respect for confidentiality and privacy. Test results will be treated as confidential medical information and will be shared only with authorized personnel on a need-to-know basis.
  20. Information related to a worker's substance abuse treatment or rehabilitation will be handled in accordance with applicable privacy laws.
